USA, UK and France are the most interested in Catalan politics. The page has become an international reference point for people interested in Catalonia’s independence push.
One year ago, the Public Diplomacy Council of Catalonia (DIPLOCAT) launched this website www.CataloniaVotes.eu. The aim was to make available to the international community information in English, German and French about Catalonia, the right to vote and the 9 November independence vote. As this was not the final vote, the website remains active for the same purpose until the plebiscitary election of 27 September.
During this first year the website has received a total of 147,976 visits by 108,935 users, who viewed 310,590 pages. The days when the website received more visits are at the beginning, on 22 April last year; the dates before and after Catalonia’s National Day on 11 September and the huge V-demonstration in Barcelona; and of course on 9 November, the day of the consultation on independence.
Regarding the origin of visitors, in recent months the web has stabilized at around 78% of foreigners and 22% of Catalan users. Outside of Catalonia, the USA (10%), United Kingdom (9%) and France (9%) are at the top, followed by Germany (8%) and Spain (8% – not counting Catalonia), and then Canada, Ireland, Russia, Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
During the first year, in addition to static information, we have introduced a total of 964 new entries on the website, especially in the news section. The site also includes forty videos, including a promotional video with Bayern coach Pep Guardiola which has received over 48,000 visits.
Every Thursday, a newsletter with the main contents of the web is sent to 1,900 subscribers.
To celebrate the first anniversary, DIPLOCAT has released a promotional postcard (picture) by designer Jordi Calvís, that will be distributed worldwide.
