Help Catalania : European parliament vicepresident asks that Spain authorize Catalan referendum

Madrid has to leave the decision in the hands of the Catalan people,” says the German liberal Alexander Álvaro.
One of the European parliament vice-presidents, Germany’s Liberal Party Alexander Álvaro, asked that Spain authorize a referendum about Catalonia’s independence. Speaking on RAC1 (a radio station in Catalonia,) Alexander Álvaro said that no government should work against the will of the people, and that Catalans have to have right to vote, although he personally doesn’t “understand the reasons why Catalans want to be independent.” “If Catalans think that is the right approach, Madrid has to leave the decision in the hands of the Catalan people,” he added.
“I think it isn't very positive that the Government is trying to interfere with the right of the Catalans to decide for themselves,” added Alexander Álvaro. He also pointed out that a government “should never force a decision on the people whether they want it or not.”
